Mechanical Engineer — Composites, Flight Systems & Embedded Electronics
I design and build things that need to survive a load case, a crash landing, or a competition
deadline — carbon fiber and fiberglass structures, small-scale VTOL systems, and the occasional
RC plane with a wing nobody's tried yet.
Competed as part of a team-built lift/VTOL platform in the DARPA LIFT Challenge, placing
15th out of 76 teams that checked in for competition. Heavily involved in the main carbon fiber wing fabrication and tilt motor assembly.

Novel Wing Design — RC Plane
Currently designing and building an RC plane around a non-standard wing configuration,
targeted for the next FliteFest after missing this year's event. Project will involve
additional wind tunnel design and testing to evaluate the feasibilty and flight
characterists of various designs.

Carbon Fiber Composite Layup
Hands-on experience designing and manufacturing carbon fiber components for
structural and cosmetic applications. Projects have included foam-core structures,
complex curved geometries, and local reinforcements using twill woven, biaxial,
and unidirectional carbon fiber. Experience includes mold preparation, wet layup,
vacuum bagging, trimming, and finishing.
Material
Carbon fiber / epoxy resin
Process
Wet layup / vacuum bag
Application
Structural / aerodynamic / cosmetic components

Fiberglass Composite Build
Developing tooling and manufacturing processes for a large fiberglass composite
topper. Initial aluminum molding revealed dimensional and geometric issues prior
to layup, requiring a redesign of the mold and evaluation of alternative moldeling
methods. Current work focuses on developing a more accurate and manufacturable
mold before beginning composite fabrication.

Automatic Solder Smoke Detector
Built an Arduino based detector for solder smoke. When smoke is detected, a 12V fan automatically activates to clear the smoke from the work area.
Platform
Arduino Nano
Sensors/Actuators
MQ-2 Sensor
Outcome
Successful but bulky. Improvements are underway.

Camper "Home" System
Utilizing a combination of Arduino Uno, Raspberry Pi 4, and various sensors to create an automatic Surveillance system for all sensors, lighting, and media devices.
